As you may or may not know I’m going to be a father soon, so I’ve decided to put a list together of 10 things I can’t wait to do with my son:

• Take him to see Liverpool at Anfield, experiencing the Kop first hand

• help to teach him the basics of life, the 3 r’s…reading, writing, and arithmetic

• laugh until tears roll down our cheeks

• talk with him (doesn’t matter what the subject is)

• play football with him, his grandads, uncle, and anybody else who wants to join in

• take him the pub at 18 and buy him his first pint

• have ‘the talk’

• share my musical tastes with him, everybody needs a bit of the man in black in their life

• take him to Disney world in Florida

• hold him in my arms

There’s loads more things that I can’t wait to experience with him, but the list had to be limited to 10, however I’ll leave you with a bonus one.

• Most of all, I just can’t wait to see him.

At the age of 16, my father was the man of the house having lost his own father (aka my Grandad, Ronnie Hollingsworth). He wanted to provide the best he could for him and my nan, and wanted to move to the up and coming area away from Toxteth, and outside of Merseyside altogether…Runcorn.

Runcorn was expanding rapidly in the early 70’s, with jobs available, and more importantly new housing springing up everywhere. The only problem was to get a house in Runcorn you had to have been working there for at least a year.

So my dad got himself a job, he was still living in Toxteth and commuting via bus and train everyday, getting up at 5am and returning home sometimes as late as midnight…for a whole year!

After 12 months the application was a success, and my dad with his mum moved to make a new start in Runcorn, without this bravery and commitment to a better life, my dad wouldn’t have met my mum, and I wouldn’t be here.

This is one of (the many) favourite stories I have about my father.

I was hoping you could assist me in finding out more information about my Great Grandfather, John Joseph Howey, and his Canadian life.

I am looking for any information leading up to him being sent to Canada, or between the years of going to Canada and joining the army. If you can help id be very grateful, if not, thanks for reading and have a great weekend.

In an attempt to open more communication channels with potential relatives of my ancestors, I have setup a page on Facebook (the worlds largest social network).

You may ask why I have a website, twitter account, and now a Facebook page? The reason is simple…exposure.  I feel that in today’s environment of ‘online all the time’, its important that I’m accessible to anyone who may be interested in collaborating, sharing stories, catching up, or getting in touch.  I mean, who am I to say that if you want to get hold of me you must be on Twitter, that would very narrow minded of me. So, I’m hoping any relatives both known and unknown (at present) will get in touch via one of these sites.

If you know anyone who is researching similar surnames to mine please point them in my direction, you never know we could be related.

According to the stories I’ve been told throughout my life, I am a direct descendant of JMW Turner (he’s supposedly my GGGGG Grandfather).  However, the children he had that would make me be related to him were illegitimate, and never took his surname.

Are there any JMW Turner experts out there who may be able to help?  If there is please get in touch, I want to prove/disprove this theory once and for all.

Please prove or disprove my theory, I have very little evidence except stories passed down through the generations

• You ask for a certificate as a Birthday/Christmas present.
• The local librarian knows you on first name terms.
• Friends and family members eyes glaze over when you start to talk about your cousin two times removed…again!
• A vacation is centred around a place you wanted to visit for research purposes.
• The groundsman at your local cemetery knows you on first name terms.
• The first thing you think of when you wake up is a recent discovery/research project relating to your family history.
• You research on your smartphone/tablet/laptop at night whilst ‘watching’ TV.
• People no longer ask “What are you up to this weekend?” because they know the answer will involve a records office/cemetery/distant relatives.
• You budget part of your monthly wage to buying new certificates…every month!
• It took you twice as long as it should have to read this because you were distracted by a new potential lead on that ‘brickwall’ you thought you had.

I found this image whilst browsing the help section of www.GenesReunited.co.uk a while ago, I thought it was the perfect way of showing how I am related to other relatives.  Of course, when I’m speaking to non-family history researchers I’ll probably still use ‘distant cousin’ or something similar for ease of explanation.

My Great Grandfather was an Alderman in Liverpool in the first 1/2 of the 20th Century.  He received and honorary degree from the university of Liverpool in 1942, before passing away in 1943.  

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I can get hold of a copy of his work records relating to him being an Alderman? Or information relating to the  reason why he was given an honorary degree?

Whilst looking through parish records on ancestry recently I relaised that the language being used was not English, at first I thought it was French due to the name John being written as Joannes, but then after looking at a few more records I realised words like matrimonius where appearing. I never studied Latin in school (the school I went too never had the option of choosing it either), however my wife did. So I passed over my iPad to her to translate a passage Id foundshe was too rusty, and was unable (not unwilling) to help me.

So I turn to you, I need some help translating the below passage taken from the marriage records for my Great Grandparents.
